Excuse Me, But Do You Have A Winner?

Yeah, it's my ugly mug again. Such a scary thing to see on a Monday morning, isn't it?

Anywho, last Monday (that would be the 5th for those of you who don't really want to think on a Monday), I wrote a post soliciting your favorite dinner ideas, and the response was pretty good (at least for me). Between Facebook and the blog, I received 18 entries.

After writing down everyone's dinner ideas on a psuedo Word document; inside a one by two table; in the lightest black ink I got (I am using every single last atom of toner that I can find in my cartridge); and cutting them out into half inch by three inch size strips of paper, I stuck them inside a hat.

And before you ask, no I didn't choose them---I had two family members choose them for me.

So the winners of my nifty little contest, where the prize is that I use your idea, and write you into the last scene (or not depending on your preference), and feature a link to your blog on my front page for one calendar month are:

Jane Turley and Lisa Brooks!

So my good readers, I will find a way to contact you, most likely via Facebook, to see if you're interested in being written into the ending of my book.

And for everyone else, thanks for participating and playing along. You all gave me some fantastic dinner ideas that really got my mouth to watering.

And now, a brief status update on that W.i.P. in question: I'm actually at the end of the book, as the only thing left for me to write, which coincidentally is the very last plot line I have to tidy up, was this restaurant scene which concludes the story (or does it?). I'm hoping to have this first draft done and in the can by the end of the week.

  1. Congrats Jane and Lisa. Given some of G's narrative exploits I would want final editorial say before I let myself be in his book..haha j/k

  2. Chinese is always good (Italian is better, though. :-( ) Joking. Good luck with your ending, G. Keep us informed of the outcome.

    Regards, David.

  3. Congrats to the winners. I've got a long way to go on my current wip.

  4. Mama Z: Thanks. Hopefully once I can get the logistics worked out, it should be a piece of cake

Bearman: Are you saying that I might do something...gasp!...bad and naughty to said recepients? I'm just...crushed.

David: Thanks. Chinese is always good...keeps me wired for the night. :D

Charles: It's a funny thing. The previous W.i.P. I was featuring last year in the blog, it gradually became tougher to write, until I finally ground to a halt with it.

With this one, the idea took hold and I was able to run with it without stoppage. The last time I cranked out something this fast (this is about two months so far) was my first mess of a self pubbed book, which took me about five months to write.

  5. I'm glad to hear the WIP is coming along so well. It's nice when things break easy.

  6. David: Most definitely...I've had short stories in which the length of time was only a few hours and a couple that lasted about a week, but this was the first full length that I've written where everything really fell into place. Even when I had a few spots where I'd gotten stuck, it only lasted less than a day before I was able to find the thread and continue...

  7. Awesome about your novel, G! That's a heady fabulous feeling when you reach the end (sad, too, but not right away - for a while you get to just enjoy the euphoria of completion).

    Congrats to Jane and Lisa!

  8. Well Good Lord, this is an unexpected surprise at 5 am in the morning! (Insomnia again) Well now - to be immortalized in a work of G's?? Hmm.. now since I know you what a saucy fellow you are G (and that you've just found out my alter ego) I'm a tad worried:)) I leave it up to your creative discretion G - just remember if you use my alter ego don't use my surname; I don't want to be fired from my current position as Housewife Extraordinaire!

  9. Congrats to them. That was a fun idea. :)

  10. Thanks, G!! I feel like one of those people who wins a walk-on cameo on a TV show... :)

  11. Best of luck wrapping up your story! I imagine that will be very satisfying.

  12. Talon: Thanks.

It's a great feeling to actually finish a novel like this. I usually have a tough time finishing stories longer than 35 pages or so, so hopefully this will give me some momentum towards finishing a few others incompletes.

Jane: Trust me, I won't be using any real names. As for a description, I may need a little help with that, so if you could shoot me a message via Facebook, it will be greatly appreciated.

Lynn: Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's always tough for me to find ways to show my appreciation for my readers, and this worked out very well. I was stuck and needed some help, and everyone was gracious enough to offer a helping hand.

Lisa: You're more than welcome. I will try to make it more than a cameo, but I promise I won't go overboard.

    S.R.: Thanks.

Very much so. Once I get it done, the real fun will begin where I'll begin work on the monster editing job I set myself up for (about 125 pages of notes I've taken so far).

  13. Congrats to the winners! Great news about finishing the novel :) What a wonderful accomplishment.

  14. Thanks.

The real fun will be when I start doing the edits.

Go on, give me your best shot. I can take it. If I couldn't, I wouldn't have created this wonderful little blog that you decided to grace with your presence today.

About that comment moderation thingy: While yes, it does say up above I can take it, I only use it to prevent the occasional miscreant from leaving thoughtless and/or clueless comments.

So remember, all of your comments are greatly appreciated and all answers will be given that personal touch that you come to expect and enjoy.
