The other day while I was making the thirty second drive to the school bus stop, this song happened to pop up on the radio. This song, which is one of the few songs penned by Bruce Springsteen that isn't a social commentary on life, is a wicked way to let yourself be taken away into the whimsy that is free form fiction.

ReplyDeleteIf my memory serves me correctly (and this is going waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back), he wrote and sold this while he was tied up in a contractual dispute with Mike Appel, his first manager.
My favorite by the Boss is "Spirits in the Night," which Manfred Mann also did wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteCharles: That one is good too. I like some of his earlier work, not too much of a fan of his later work. Plus nowadays I find him to be a bit of hypocrite.

S.R.: The beauty of this song is that the lyrics are pure nonsense. No deep meaning or thought provoking, just pure silliness.

ReplyDeleteHe does a version of this as well, but like every other artist who does their own song that was covered better by someone else, it doesn't sound too good.
